It is with deep sorrow that the children announce the passing of their beloved father, Thomas S. Cameron. Tom, as he was affectionately known, peacefully joined his Heavenly Father on June 21, 2024. The compassionate team at Goldfinch Funeral Home is caring for the family during this difficult time. Tom’s journey began on July 12, 1935, in Jersey City, NJ, where he excelled as a four-sport high school athlete in track, basketball, swimming, and baseball. His basketball skills led him to Clemson University, where he played guard for the Tigers and also competed as a high jumper on the track team. It was at Clemson that he met Jerri Tyler, the love of his life, on a blind date. Their love story unfolded swiftly, and they eloped, celebrating 67 joyful years of marriage. After graduating from Clemson with a degree in Industrial Management in 1959, Tom embarked on a successful career. He worked at Milliken in Greenville, SC, and Hartsville, SC, before joining Sonoco Products Company in 1964. Tom’s dedication to his work spanned three decades until his retirement in 1994. Along the way, he, Jerri, and their four children moved seven times, creating a rich tapestry of memories across South Carolina, Massachusetts, Ontario, and Georgia. When retirement beckoned, Jerri chose Murrells Inlet, SC, as their home base—a place where they could cherish their roots and enjoy their golden years together. Tom’s devotion to family knew no bounds. He relished spending time with his loved ones, especially during the annual beach trips and Thanksgiving gatherings. Whether watching the kids and grandkids play, engaging in spirited Cornhole matches, or sharing rounds of golf, Tom loved time with his family. Tom enjoyed sports all of his life, especially golf and tennis, a passion he shared with Jerri. They spent countless hours on the court and course developing lifelong friendships along the way. Once retired at Wachesaw, golf became their focus and they continued to share many hours on the course with family and friends. In addition to his wife Jerri, Tom was preceded in death by his parents and sister Elanor Backus. Tom is survived by his Children: Tom Cameron Jr. (Mary) of Myrtle Beach, Cathi Albert (Pete) of Merrimack, NH, Suzy Rizzo (Rick) of Brantford, ON Canada, Scott Cameron (Donna) of Hartsville, SC, Grandchildren: Heather Luce of Lowell, MA, Bridgett Harmon (Matthew) of Scarborough, ME, Chris Hafey of Florence, MA, Erin Koskela (Brent) of Manchester, NH, Scott Cameron Jr (Katrin) of Immenstaad, Germany, Cam Gosine (Mary) of Dracut, MA, Caitlyn Albert (Matthew) of Northwood, NH, Devon Rizzo (Brian) of Brantford, ON Canada, Emily Boyd (Jared) of Rock Hill, SC, Stevie Gosine of Merrimack, NH, Julianna Albert (Shane) of Worcester, MA, Great-Grandchildren: Wyatt, Alisha, Valerie, Cori, Olivia, Easton James, Ariella, Michaela, Great-Great-Grandchildren: Dylan, JJ, Ivi. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff at MUSC in Charleston, SC, for their exceptional care and compassion during Tom’s final days. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Litchfield-Pawleys Chapel. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior at 10 AM at the funeral home.
