Alma Lee Lyerly

Alma Lee Lyerly was born in Monck's Corner, SC, on September 4, 1928 to Bessie Rowland and Kirten Lee Lyerly. She is predeceased by her parents and siblings Ernest Lyerly, Nellie Lyerly, Bert Lyerly, Mary Lee and Jeanette Brown, and by her niece Becky Lee Reed and nephews Donald Helms and John Lyerly. Alma was a member of the First Baptist Church for 84 years, taught children's Sunday School, was in the Sonshine Sunday School Class and sang in the choir for many years. Along with her sisters Nellie and Bert, she owned and operated Nellie's Beauty Salon in Conway for decades. Alma was a talented hair stylist who competed and won many national awards for her designs. In her later life she opened Alma's Creative Arts quilting shop along with her sister Jeanette. Until she retired at 89, Alma was active teaching many children of younger generations to sew and quilt. She also enjoyed playing board games, cards, baking, ceramics, and stitching of all sorts. She was also an avid sports fan, especially Atlanta Braves baseball. Alma was devoted to family and enjoyed all her nieces and nephews: Al Lyerly, Rausa McManus, Steve Lee, Ellen Lyerly (John) and Betsy Helms (Donald). Many great nieces and nephews survive her: Beth Helms, David Helms, Jennifer Iverson, Sarah Chamberlain, Matthew Lyerly, Patrick Reed, Cory McManus, Kirt McManus, John McManus, Mary Kate Regnery, Paige Rostin and Joseph McCown. Her lifelong friends Brenda Norris and Rocky Taylor were like family to her, along with the faithful ladies from First Baptist Church who visited her regularly. Alma's family is sincerely grateful to the wonderful, loving staff of Spring Oak Assisted Living who not only took care of her but loved her for many years. Also many thanks to Agape Hospice for their care and kindness. We will all remember Alma for her spunk, independent spirit, sense of humor and love of life. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, July 3, 2026 at Hillcrest Cemetery with Rocky Taylor officiating. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service.
