Angus Lovan

Pawleys Island??Angus E. Lovan, age 89, retired Army/Air-Force Lt. Col. Angus ?Gus? Lovan of Litchfield, a retired LTC with 28 years of active duty service, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at the Lakes of Litchfield, at the age of 88. Since retirement from the Air-Force, he worked as a real estate agent and as a manager of the Villa?s at Litchfield. He is a former member of the Litchfield Country Club and was an avid golfer. Mr. Lovan graduated from High School in Kentucky and attended two years of college majoring in business administration at the University of Maryland. Mr. Lovan served in WW II in England as a B-17 pilot in the 486th Bomb Group completing 35 missions. During his 28 years of service he was stationed at multiple bases all over the United States, Hawaii, Japan, Germany, and South America. He served in Korea in 1951, being awarded the Bronze Star. This assignment was followed by tours of duty in Japan, Hawaii, South Carolina, and Topeka, Kansas. He was a Command Pilot. He attended the Air-Force?s Command and Staff School at Maxwell Air Force Base, in Alabama. He served on the Air Force Inspector General?s Team for Headquarters 9th Air Force. Mr. Lovan Completed his service as Commander of the Tactical Air Lift Squadron at Topeka, Kansas. Mr. Lovan was pre-deceased by his parents George and Lila Mable Lovan. Mr. Lovan was a long standing member at Pawleys Island Community Church, where he served as treasurer and usher for many years. Surviving are his wife, Mary of 63 years: a daughter, Janette; two grandsons: John and Martin; great-grandson, Martin; five ssisters: Edna, Betty, Dot, and Nadine. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday at Pawleys Island Community Church. Burial will follow in Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church Cemetery, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Litchfield Pawleys Chapel. The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM Monday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Litchfield-Pawleys Chapel. Memorials may be made to Tara Hall Boy?s Home, 510 Tara Hall Road, Georgetown, SC 29440.
