Betty Jo Hyman Singleton, age 72, wife of H. Lavon Singleton of Reba Rd., died Tuesday, February 06, 2007 at Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet. Mrs. Singleton was born in Conway, SC a daughter of the late James Larry "Bud" Hyman and the late Lula Jane Johnson Hyman. She was predeceased by five sisters; Eloise Hughes, Fancy Gore, Genewood Johnson, Grettie Johnson, Carrie Hucks and three half-brothers, J.B. Hyman, Herman Hyman, and Lon Hyman. Mrs. Singleton retired from Conway National Bank in 1999 after 47 years where she served in a myriad of positions up to and including Bank Manager of CNB Third Avenue Main Office. She attended numerous banking seminars/ courses conducted by the Moore School of Business, at the University of South Carolina, and the South Carolina's State Bank Association. She would go on to graduate with distinction from the University of South Carolina, School of Banking. Mrs. Singleton was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Conway, and member of United Methodist Women, John McCutcheon Sunday School Class, and the Spivey/Ward circle. She was a former member of the Conway Pilot Club. Mrs. Singleton loved people and always made them feel welcome. Her greatest legacy is her family where she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving in addition to her husband of Conway are: a son, Lieutenant Colonel Mark A. Singleton USMC Ret and wife Sheila of Conway, SC; three grandchildren, Tara Lee Singleton and husband Brandon, M.A. Singleton, Jr., and Cole Singleton; three sisters, Maxine Holmes of Conway, Wil Lou Pace of Camden, SC, and Ethel Lee Johnson of Copperas Cove, TX. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Friday, February 9, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church of Conway with the Rev. Mac Kinnett and Rev. Carl Harris officating. Burial will follow in Union United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
