Bonita B. Smoak, 85, beloved wife of Donald McCoy Smoak of Conway, SC joined God's heavenly choir of angels on June 13, 2016. Born in Conway, Bonita was the daughter of Emerson T. and Bonnie Cox Bellamy and was one of six children. A member of the First United Methodist Church of Conway, SC and Chancel Choir for over 60 years , she sang many solos for church services, weddings and funeral services and was a regular soloist for the Men's Hut Bible Class where she was a favorite for over 40 years. As a true southern lady, Bonita was loved and admired for her sweet spirit and faithfulness to her family, friends and church. Well known for her love of music and beautiful soprano voice, she had a way of telling a story when she sang. Music was the vessel she used to inspire others to a Christ-like life. Bonita was employed as an optical technician with James M. Marshall, MD in Conway for over 35 years, then continued with Phillip Hillen, MD until her retirement. In January 2016 she was preceded in death by her son, Neal Emerson Smoak(Dana) and is survived by her husband, the love of her life for 66 years, Donald McCoy Smoak, three daughters, Donna S. Watts (Ted) ,Murrells Inlet, Beth S. Hagwood (Woody) Conway and Rachel S. Ballenger (Gil), Charleston, a Daughter-In-Law Dana Kelsey Smoak of Travelers Rest, a brother, Clarence Bellamy (Johnnie) of Columbia, seven grandchildren, Matthew Watts(Rebecca), Hope Smoak Connolly( Joseph), Fletcher Smoak (Erica), Gage Ballenger, Evan Ballenger, Reid O'Quinn Hagwood, Elizabeth Hagwood and seven great-grandchildren. There will be a visitation Thursday, June 16 from 6 to 8 pm at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. A Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 1001 5th Ave, Conway, SC at 2:00 PM Friday, June 17, 2016 officiated by Rev. Kyle Randle, with a short visitation prior to the service in the commons area of the church. Services will conclude at Lakeside Cemetery. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the First United Methodist Church, Conway, SC or Help4Kids.
