Brian D. Taylor

Brian D. Taylor, 55, of Murrells Inlet, SC passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on January 19, 2026. Brian was born in Florence County, SC May 6, 1970. Brian was a big goofball that loved to make people laugh. He was a huge history buff and had an obsession for airplanes. He was very proud to be born and raised in the south, hence the 100 plus hat collection. He was a huge supporter of the Constitution and the Second Amendment. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and a member of the Sons of the Confederacy. Another thing most people don’t know is Brian and I met by fate! He died exactly 38 years to the day that we met. January 19, 1988 - January 19, 2026. We got married May 15, 1992 and almost made it to 34 years. Brian was a very humble man. Before we were married I made sure he understood my complex medical problems and numerous autoimmune diseases. He flat out told me to shut up he didn’t care, it didn’t matter what it was, he loved me and that was all that mattered. Unfortunately, most of our marriage I required frequent hospitalizations and far too numerous operations. He was with me each step of the way. He has turned into a huge advocate for Crohn’s since he knew I had been fighting it for 48 years and counting, starting at 8. He also finally got it through my head to not be ashamed that I have Crohn’s, it is not my fault, and to never be ashamed of something you can’t help. He was the best nurse and cheerleader you could ever ask for. Brian was in the Army National Guard unit in Hartsville, SC for 1990-1996. Then he got his CDL and started driving a cement truck for Unicon Concrete.That changed September 14, 2001. Most don’t realize Brian was actually a hero. In order to avoid killing four people from England in a Taurus, who suddenly slammed on brakes on Highway 17 instead of the median because they were late for tee time. To avoid killing them, Brian put his own life at risk and opted to turn the concrete truck over. Brian suffered horrific injuries in that wreck. He suffered a contract traumatic brian injury that damaged a lot of his frontal brain lobe. As well as suffering a very deep traumatic brain injury in the center part of his brain that basically helps regulate who you are as well as having brainstem injuries. He also had an orbital blow out, eye operations to help straighten his eyes and vision, plus several neuro surgical issues. He tried so hard to return to work but due to the severity of his injuries he was labeled disabled. Brian has suffered so much since that wreck. His brain injuries totally changed him into a different person. Each year his issues would progressively get worse. He was literally wasting away right in front of my eyes. He was only 130 lbs. He was miserable. He was suffering and in constant pain. He knew he had changed and did not like that person he had become. His frontal lobe injury had started to erode causing him to lose his social cues and filters making him say and do things he would never even do. On top of that he’d be adamant he hadn't done anything wrong. It was so hard watching him literally go through hell. He had recently started having more and more neurological problems, more frequent debilitating headaches and vision problems especially since Christmas. He had a sick headache and thought he’d sleep it off like he has been since that wreck. Unfortunately Brian died in his sleep. I am still waiting on answers. He is survived by his daddy, Henry David “Red” Taylor and his wife Gloria of Darlington, SC; a brother, Henry David Taylor Jr. and his wife Jennie of Sumter, SC. He is preceded in death by his mother, Dale Ruston Taylor of Sumter, SC; his paternal grandmother, Juanite Hatcher of Darlington, SC and his maternal grandparents, Justin “PeeWee” and Thelma Rushton of Georgetown, SC; and his father-in-law with whom he shared a special bond with, John Keith Coker or Murrells Inlet. He is also survived by his loving wife of almost 34 years, Sherrill Coker Taylor; our pet cat, Sox, our 14 year old rescue dog, Zip, and our 3 and a half year old doxie poo, Coker (or “Brat” as Brain called him). He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Elizabeth S. Coker of Murrells Inlet, SC; sister-in-law, Dr. Mytsi Coker of Murrells Inlet, SC; his sister-in-law Michelle Evans and her husband Sammy; two beautiful nieces, Kinsey (Evans),Brice Williams, and Tiffany Evans and her fiance, Nathan Barr all of Darlington, SC; and his beloved 23 month old great nephew, Brooks Williams of Darlington, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be mailed to his wife at 43 Riverbend Drive, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576 to go towards a special memorial to honor him. A private Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Brian and his wife shared a special code for years, unfortunately it will be the last time until they are reunited. Brian LYBI !!!
