Carl Johnsen - A Good Man Carl Johnsen passed away peacefully on April 28th 2024, in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. Known to his family as “Pop”, Carl was born on November 11,1936 to Dot and Carl Johnsen in Staten Island, New York where he grew up and raised his family. Carl graduated from Curtis High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country. He was stationed in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge, Carl began his career with the New York City Department of Corrections, working at the Brooklyn House of Detention until his retirement 23 years later. Carl began a second career with the United States Postal service where he retired after 10 years. Carl loved the game of golf. He was a proud member of the Esquire Club in Staten Island until he moved to South Carolina with a bunch of his golf buddies so they could play year round. Carl was an avid sports fan, cheering on the New York Rangers, Giants, Yankees and Knicks. But what Carl truly loved was his family. He always put family first. If you needed something, it was done - no questions asked. He was the best father, husband, grandpa, great grandpa, son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be truly missed by everyone and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Carl is survived by the love of his life, Josephine Nastasi. They were together for over 35 years - truly soul mates. He is also survived by his children: Gregg [Suzanne], Paul [Debra], Donna [Nick]; his step children: Leticia [BOBBY], Albert [Kathleen]; his 13 loving grandchildren; 3 loving great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. Carl was predeceased by his first wife, Joan; his brothers: Richie and Bobby and his grandson, Robert who he had a very special bond with and loved deeply. His Family would like to thank his many friends for all the love and support they provided him over the years.
