Carl E. Ledbetter peacefully passed away on November 14, 2024 at his home in Aynor with his family by his side. Born January 8,1943 in Salisbury, North Carolina, Carl was the son of the late Eugene and Lula Belle Ledbetter. Carl is survived by his wife, Sara Faye; two sons, Bryan (Shirley) Ledbetter of Conway, and Mark (Mary) Ledbetter of Greenville, SC; four granddaughters: Yolanda (Daniel) Sams of Tucson, Arizona, Leigh Ann (James) Harman of Aynor, SC, Lauren (Brian) Mezger of Conway, SC, and Lora Ledbetter of Conway, SC; seven great-grandchildren: Nevaeh and Mira Sams, Zachary, Aidan, and Levi Harman, Rhylee and Jacob Mezger; his sister, Sandra Yow of Stanfield, NC, as well as, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a graduate of Stanfield High School, after which he enlisted in the Air Force on September 15, 1961. He earned an Associates degree in Applied Science from Vernon Regional Junior College in Vernon Texas, as well as, an Associates and a Bachelors in Human Resources Administration from Saint Leo College at Shaw AFB in Sumter, South Carolina. Carl served 23 years in the Air Force where he had a distinguished military career and was awarded several medals to include Meritorious Service Medal and three Commodation medals. He served in several locations throughout his career: Greenland, Thailand, and the Philippines. He retired in 1984 as a Senior Master Sergeant. After retirement, he served as a Revenue Officer for the Internal Revenue Service until he retired for good in 2005. Carl was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, Faith Lodge #1158, Fort Worth Scottish Rite, Jamil Shrine Temple, and he served as a Service Officer and was Past Adjutant for Chapter 57 Disabled American Veterans. Carl was passionate about many things: hunting, fishing, and golfing. His greatest joys in life came from serving at Brown Swamp Methodist Church in Conway, SC, other Veterans at the DAV, and spending time with his family . Family and friends are invited to honor the memory of Carl at Brown Swamp Methodist Church on Saturday, November 16, 2024; visitation will be at 2 pm with the funeral service following at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
