Carolyn Virginia Smith 9/11/52 ~ 5/4/22 At 9:47pm on Wednesday, May 4th, 2022, our angel gained her eternal wings surrounded by her son, daughter-in-law, two beloved granddaughters, and her oldest granddaughter’s boyfriend, all of whom she loved dearly. Carolyn Virginia Smith, lovingly known as Carol, was a very independent, determined, at times stubborn, and hard-working mother and grandmother. Throughout her life she was a cashier at her parent's grocery store in Garden City and later at Chapin grocery, a cafeteria manager at Myrtle Beach Elementary, and a very talented cake baker and decorator with arguably the best homemade buttercream icing recipe ever invented. Her greatest and proudest achievement, however, was always her family, especially her son Clay and two granddaughters, Alexis and Kyrie. She loved fiercely and dedicated herself to providing and caring for those she loved. No matter what she went through, Carol always kept her faith and fought with all of her heart, a fighting strength that helped her beat breast cancer. Carol was born in Hemingway, SC and grew up in Stuckey, SC. She was eldest of three and only daughter of the late Robert H. Smith Sr. and Delores Mae Clayton, both of whom she is predeceased by. She married the love of her life, Thomas Aiken Lee at only 18 years old, who she is also predeceased by. Carol is survived by her son Christopher Clayton Lee and his wife Michelle of Murrells Inlet; Grand Daughters, Alexis Danielle Lee and Kyrie Madison Lee of Murrells inlet; brother Robert Harmon Smith, Jr. of Murrells Inlet; as well as many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. Our hearts are broken but we take comfort knowing that she is no longer in pain and has been reunited in heaven with her parents, grandparents, and late husband Tommy. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 9, 2022 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. Committal Services will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Many people loved our mother and grandmother and the family wishes to rejoice in the wonderful life she lived with all of you by receiving friends from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at the funeral home.
