Tributes

Mr. Charles Blaine Fisher, 87, passed peacefully early Friday morning, July 2, 2010, at his home in Murrells Inlet, SC surrounded by his wife, El-Letha and his family. He was the son of Hartzel Fisher and Rose Dadisman Fisher of Barbour County, WV. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Charles was a retired glass worker and coal miner in Stonewood, WV where he lived until moving to SC in 2006. He was accomplished as a carpenter, auto mechanic, handyman, and repairman. Charles was a US Army veteran who served with the 80th Infantry Division in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. He received the Purple Heart Medal and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service. Charles was an active member of the Stonewall United Methodist Church in Stonewood, WV. He was a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason with membership in Clarksburg Lodge # 155 A. F. & A. M. Active in community affairs, he was a founding member and past president of the Stonewood Lions Club, and served multiple terms as councilman and mayor of the town of Stonewood, WV. Charles was an avid small game and deer hunter. He enjoyed gardening. He also liked to compete in friendly games of horseshoes, badminton, croquet, checkers, or Five Hundred (the family card game). In addition to El-Letha, his beloved wife of 64 years, Charles is survived by his son Ervin and wife Patty of Pawleys Island, SC; daughter Shelia Fankhauser and husband Doug of Murrells Inlet, SC; step brother Floyd Rhodes; three grandchildren, three step grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and four step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; step mother Mabel Fisher; brothers Ercell, Elmer, William, and Gerald; sister Devere Tassone; step brother Bradford Rhodes; and step sister Lorraine Pulliam. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 6, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main Street, Clarksburg, WV. Reverend Sylvester Green will lead the memorial service that will follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will then follow at the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Quiet Dale, WV.
