Garden City David S. Jacobs David S. Jacobs, 99, of Myrtle Beach, SC passed away peacefully on December 27 at NHC Healthcare, Garden City, SC. He joins his beloved wife, Gina, who departed in 2008. Born in Minersville, PA on August 3, 1914, Mr. Jacobs and his family moved to Williamsport, PA in his early childhood and he, and later his wife, Gina, lived there until they moved to Murrells Inlet in 1979. Mr. Jacobs was the son of the late Louis and Mary Swartz Jacobs. He is survived by his sisters, Jeanette Stuempfle of Williamsport, PA, and Sarah Adelman of Birmingham, AL; nephews Arthur Stuempfle (Linda) of Edgewood, MD and David Stuempfle (Georgine) of Hellertown, PA; nieces Sarah Lou Iovino of Swedesboro, NJ; Fran Bricker (Larry) of Bremerton, WA; and Janice Niedenthal (Craig) of Birmingham, AL; nephew-in-law Ted Coleman and niece-in-law Franca Coleman of Victoria, Australia, as well as numerous great nieces and great nephews. He also leaves behind his friend of more than 8 years, Brenda Ruddick. David worked for Sears, Roebuck & Co. of Williamsport, PA for 40 years before retiring. He managed both the household appliance and sporting goods departments and was an avid sports fan. His favorite sports teams were any that played for Philadelphia. Over the past couple of years he planned his evenings around the sports games that were featured on TV that day. He played baseball and tennis throughout much of his life and believed in living an active and healthy lifestyle. David and Gina loved travelling with their friend Hal and others from the Garden City Chapel and logged many miles on the tour bus as they travelled all over the US. David gave generously of his time after his retirement, volunteering with the Murrells Inlet/Garden City Fire Department as a dispatcher for 10 years, serving meals for the American Red Cross, and helping with the Belin Church BBQ. David and Gina spent a great deal of time with Louis Hilal and Rouada Hilal throughout their childhood and formative years and felt blessed to have the joy of the children’s presence in their lives. A graveside service will be held at the Belin United Methodist Church cemetery on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11:00 am. They will receive family and friends on Friday, January 3, 2014, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Goldfinch Funeral Home/ Beach Chapel. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff of NHC National Healthcare of Garden City, SC and InCare Hospice for their loving care of David.
