Indigo Creek resident Dennis Allen Lienemann was born May 24,1944, in Hastings, Nebraska, and passed on August 3, 2025 from Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was preceded in death by his parents Suntke L. and Helen M. Lienemann, his brother Jerome Leroy Lienemann, and his sister-in-law Linda Young Lienemann. Denny’s family moved to North Platte, Nebraska, where he grew up and graduated in 1962 from North Platte High School. As an accomplished multi-sport athlete in football, basketball, track and baseball, Denny had the opportunity on two separate occasions to pitch against Satchel Paige and the traveling Kansas City Monarchs team. Denny’s team won both games. At Kearney State College (now Univ. of Nebraska-Kearney), Denny joined the Caledonia (Sigma Phi Epsilon) fraternity where he met several of his lifelong friends. He and seven of those friends created the Pre-Death Gang with the lofty ambition of getting together annually to play golf and cards. With an official logo stating “Golf and Poker, Forever”, the PD group convened at different locations in the U.S. or Canada for 42 years. Their tradition of sending Christmas cards with a picture of the gang on the first tee and the message “Be good to your husband this holiday season, it may be his last…” allows for a fun look down memory lane. After graduation in May 1966 with a Bachelor of Science Degree, he immediately began working as credit manager for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in North Platte. His career path changed from automotive to electronics when a friend told him TRW, Inc. in Ogallala, Nebraska, was hiring sales and marketing personnel. After a successful interview, the Lienemann family made Ogallala their home for 18 years. An opportunity with Illinois Capacitors relocated the family to Chicago for a year before Denny reunited with a former colleague at AVX-Kyocera in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Known affectionately as Mr. Intel (his largest account), Denny retired in 2003 from the industry which afforded him ample opportunities for domestic and international travel – most often to Singapore. Denny met the love of his life, Judith Anne Austin of Hastings, Nebraska, administering college admissions tests to incoming freshmen. They married on November 25, 1966, and he enjoyed doing things both with – and for – her. As an inseparable pair, Denny and Judy collected antiques, opened The Glass Haus antique store in Ogallala, designed and built The Putt-A-Round mini-golf course, vacationed with their boys and with friends, played cards and dice games, and watched movies at drive-ins and in theaters. They called 17 different addresses “home” and were together for 58 magical years. A life-time member of the Elks Club (Nebraska), Denny was never without a witty or clever remark (“Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?”). He was called one of the kindest men by anyone who knew him and will be dearly missed by all. Survivors include two sons: Garth W. Lienemann (Tracy Sheppard) of Ashland, Nebraska, and Christopher J Lienemann (Amy Bazen) of Haymarket, Virginia. There are four grandchildren: Molly Kathleen of Washington, DC; Grace Marie of Lincoln, Nebraska; Connor Austin and Avery Nicole of Haymarket, Virginia. Our sincere appreciation goes to the Tideland Cancer Center doctors and staff and the Heartland Hospice team of professionals for the care given to Denny during his illness. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Surfside United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 10th.
