Diane Marie Andrews Reid, 59 passed away on the 19th of December 2004 after a short heroic battle with brain cancer. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Many thank yous to all the doctors, nurses, Hospice care givers, good friends and neighbors who helped in many different ways. \tDiane was born in Bristol, Conn., 28 July 1945, daughter of the late Ralph Berry Andrews and Cecile Mary Lessard Andrews. Diane and her parents moved to Andrews, SC when she was three years old. Diane attended Andrews schools graduating in 1963. She enjoyed being in the marching band, because she got to travel out of town. Diane became a registered nurse at the Medical University School of Nursing in Charleston, SC in 1966. During this time, Diane fell in love with Eugene Reid, a Citadel cadet and got married after graduation. Diane worked at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC, Junction City Hospital in Kansas, Charleston Health Dept and retired from SC Waccamaw District DHEC after 28 years of service in April 2003 as a registered nurse. Diane?s favorite part of her job was working with handicapped children. Diane received many awards from the SC DHEC in recognition for her hard work, dedication and professionalism as a nurse for the Waccamaw District DHEC. Diane was an avid reader of American and English literature and poetry. She just loved to read, paint in water colors and listen to Irish and classical music. Visiting museums to see art work was a must. Traveling to places she read about was an adventure. Diane planned well in advance; especially in the British Isles and European continent. \tSurvivors include her devoted and loving husband, Eugene Reid and their son, Christopher E.C. Reid of Surfside Beach and their daughter, Denise R. Reid of Winter Park, FL, Diane?s younger sister, Jane Burkette and her husband Ronald of Georgetown, SC,, Mr. Reid?s mother, Nina S. Reid of Boynton Beach, FL, his brother, Leonard Reid and his wife, Melissa Reid of Port St. Lucie, FL, Diane?s nephew, Donnie Burkette of Columbia, SC and her nieces Melissa Prosser and her husband Sam, Jennifer Cherry and husband Jason of Georgetown, SC, Robin Reid Stone and husband Andrew Stone of Chicago, ILL and Lauren Kate Reid of Miami, FL. \tIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Burnt Gin for Handicapped Children, Attn: Marie Almone, Box 101106, Columbia, SC 29211. \tA memorial tribute will be held 1:00 PM, Sunday, January 2, 2005 next to the Ashley River at White Point Gardens and the Fort Sumter House ?The Battery? in Charleston, SC. \tGoldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel is in charge of arrangements
