Surfside Beach….Dudley H. Kruhm Dudley Herman Kruhm age 85, died Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late Marvin and Mazie Kruhm. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Garvey. Mr. Kruhm married Iris Julianne Byrd on Feb. 2, 1980. He graduated in Comml. Design, Columbus Coll. Art and Design, Ohio, 1956-60; student in Journalism and Pub. Affairs, US Navy Sch., Balt., 1976-79. Advt. artist Balt. Sun, 1960-63, Balt. News-Am., 1963-65, Raider Advt. Agy., Washington, 1965-66; advt. product mgr. Roper-Eastern Co., Balt., 1966-67; planner and designer typo and design dept., GPO, Washington, 1967-70, visual info., 1970-80; art prodn. chief US News & World Report, Washington, 1970; art dir. Dept. Interior, Policy Budget and Adminstrn., Washington, 1980-; pub. affairs officer and editor newspaper US Navy Res. Seabees, Ft. Belvoir, Va., 1976-79; instr. Fed. Design Focus Program, GPO, 1976-78. He was a book designer for the Govt. Agys. Publs., 1971 (spl. Achievement award); designer-dir. Outdoor lighted display, Christmas Drive-Through Pageant, Grace Baptist Ch., Bowie, Md., 1974-84. Vice pres. Bowie Interfaith Recreation Council, 1976-77; softball commr., 1977; football coach Bowie Boys Club, 1977-78; baseball coach, 1980; Olympics dir. Awana Youth Assn., Capitol Area, 1977-83. He served with the USAF, 1950-54; Korea. Mr. Kruhm was decorated with the Korea Service Medal with three stars; recipient Spl. Achievement award US Dept. Interior, 1983, Navy achievement medal US Naval Reserve Seabees, 1979 and a member Fed. Artists and Designers (blue pencil 1972). Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Julianne Kruhm of Surfside Beach; daughters, Pamela Joop of Crofton, MD, Laura Showler (Brian) of Bowie, MD, Cynthia Kovensky (Mike) of Delray Beach, FL and Christina Zalewski (Dan) of Stafford, VA; a son, Eric Kruhm (Michelle) of Ellicott City, MD; grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew and Rebecca Joop, Kent Showler, Tara Muldoon, Erika Brown, Ashley Haass, Erin and Jacob Zalewski, Sarah and Shawn Kruhm; great grandchildren, Bryrie, Brahmer, Bree, Braeton, Dutch and Lilly. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Surfside Presbyterian Church with Reverend Julian Riddle officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 16, 2017 at Florence National Cemetery.
