Wilmington, NC..... Edward Raymond Davis, age 80, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023. Mr. Davis was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, son of the late Perry Edward and Lois Mildred Sharp Davis. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Sylvia J. Cox Davis. He attended Colorado State University as an Air Force ROTC student while studying Civil Engineering. Upon graduating, he was a commissioned US Air Force officer in Civil Engineering. After marrying Sylvia, he was stationed at Shaw Air Force Base, SC amongst deployments to Vietnam and Korea. After Shaw, he was assigned to Tempelhof in West Berlin, West Germany. Upon return stateside, he worked for the State of Arizona on loan from the USAF. He then was stationed at NAS Jacksonville on loan to the Navy. He was then assigned to Andrews Air Force Base and lived in Bowie, Maryland. Maj. Davis served on a remote assignment to Sondrestrom, Greenland. His final assignment was in Washington, DC at Bowling Air Force Base before retirement and receiving an honorable discharge. Maj. Davis received many honors during his distinguished career including 4 Bronze Stars. After retiring from the Air Force, Mr. Davis became the chief of facilities at Yale University where he was a Fellow of Davenport College and worked with ROTC. After Yale, he became Facilities Manager at University of North Carolina, Wilmington and moved to Kure Beach, NC. He remained at UNCW until retirement. He was a member of Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church in Carolina Beach, NC, where he was an ordained Elder and served on Session. Ed and Sylvia loved doting on their grandson Zachary and "adopted" granddaughters Chandler Voncannon (Kure Beach, NC) and Grey Voncannon (Charlottsville, VA) who lovingly adopted Ed and Sylvia upon their move to Kure Beach. His love for the Lord and his family remained tremendously important, as was his love for our country. Surviving are: one daughter, Shelva Jean Davis Sagone (Matthew Lawrence Sagone) of New Albany, Ohio; grandson, Zachary James Davis Sagone of New Albany, Ohio; one sister, Lynda Hazlett (Ken) of Longmont, CO; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Monday, November 20, 2023 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Bowling officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:30 AM until 12:00 Noon Monday, November 20, 2023.
