Dr. Edward M. Hard Edward Merrill Hard, MD, age 84, died Monday, January 4, 2009 at Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet, SC. Born in Worthington, OH, he was a son of the late Earl M. and Louella Mae Hard. Dr. Hard was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He attended Ohio Wesleyan University as an undergraduate and graduated from the University of Rochester, School of Medicine. During College he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He was Chief Resident of Ohio State University and practiced Internal Medicine in Columbus, OH. Dr. Hard served as Medical Director for several insurance companies including Midland Mutual and Grange Life Insurance Company. He was Master of Capitol City Masonic Lodge in Ohio in 1982, and was a member of Pawleys Island Lodge. Dr. Hard was President of the American Academy of Insurance Medicine in 1988. He was Co-Founder of International Child Care ministering to children of Haiti. Dr. Hard was a faithful member of St. Paul's Waccamaw United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Hard and two sisters, Rosemary Kemp and Margaret Sinkey. Survivors include his wife June Hard of Pawleys Island; six daughters, Kathleen Moore and husband Patrick of Columbus, OH, Cynthia Tosenberger and husband Michael of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Judith Hug of Lancaster, OH, Patricia Price and husband Richard of Newark, OH, Rev. Martha Cramer and husband Darrell of Marysville, OH, and Dr. Carmel Pradel of Los Angeles, CA; ten grandchildren, Margaret Moore, Brendan Moore, Amy Tosenberger-Smith and husband Timothy, Lisa Gonidakis and husband Chris, Brian Hug and wife Brandy, Rebecca Hug, Scott Ball and wife Jennifer, Regan Price, Benjamin Cramer and fiancÃ©e Julie Makowski, and Julia Cramer; five great-grandchildren, Mikaela, Alaina, Maya, Ryann and Makenna. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 9, 2010 at St. Paul's Waccamaw United Methodist Church with Reverend Nels Ledwell officiating. Family will receive friends following the services.
