Edwin Lee Jones, age 89, a loyal husband, father, and grandfather died on Friday, March 21, 2014, at Myrtle Beach Estates Memory Care Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Edwin was the son of the late Charles Edwin Jones and Ruby May McKee and grew up in northern Georgia near Gainesville. He was a decorated war veteran, having served in both WWII and Korean War in the Philippines and Japan. Edwin graduated from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA, then moved to Washington DC, where he met his wife Barbara. They got married and started a family in Arlington, VA, then settled in Springfield, VA, where they stayed for 40 years. They retired to Murrells Inlet in 2002. In WWII, Edwin served from 1944-46 in the 8th Army, 41st Division as a Private First Class then served in the US Air Force in Japan and Pope Air Force Base in NC as a Staff Sergeant from 1949-53 during the Korean War. After earning a BA degree in Business Administration, he worked for the US General Accounting Office and then the US Navy Audit Services, retiring after 28 years in the Government. He is survived by his children Karen Bourgeois and her husband Fred of Felton, CA; Bruce Jones of Naperville, IL, grandchildren Carolyn Good, Laura Jones, Samuel Jones and PVT Frederick Bourgeois IV, sister Vera Mae Porter and extended Jones family members. Edwin enjoyed playing bridge and solitaire, coaching Little League baseball, playing golf, gardening, doing house projects, supporting his wife's activities in the Woman's Club, and traveling with his family and friends. He also served on the neighborhood watch at Indigo Creek for several years. The family would also like to thank Right at Home, Myrtle Beach Estates, and Embrace Hospice caregivers who provided excellent care and support over these past months. Flowers are welcomed or donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association/SC Chapter, 2090 Executive Hall Rd, Ste 130, Charleston, SC 29407. The visitation will take place at 1:00pm, Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. A memorial service will then follow at 2:00 pm. A burial with military honors is scheduled for Tuesday, May 20 at 10:00 AM at National Military Cemetery in Quantico, VA.
