Edwin Gilbert Russell, 77, of Myrtle Beach, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Myrtle Beach VA Clinic. Edwin was born July 18, 1946, in Yonkers, New York, the son of Edwin G. Russell Sr. and Jessie De Stefano Russell. Edwin was preceded in death by his father, Edwin G. Russell Sr., as well as all his grandparents. As a young man, Edwin lived in New York, and he honorably served his country in the United States Army. During his working years, Edwin was an oil transport truck driver, among other important jobs he held. He was also a proud member of the Teamsters Union. Edwin also served his community as a member of the Wallkill Volunteer Fire Department in Middletown, New York. Upon retirement, Edwin and his wife Patricia relocated to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In Myrtle Beach, Edwin and Patricia became members of Frassati Catholic Church in Carolina Forest. In his leisure time, Edwin loved golfing and horse racing. He was also an avid player of pinochle. He loved life and accomplished everything he wanted to, except for winning the Kentucky Derby. Above all else, Edwin loved his family and will always be remembered as an excellent storyteller. Cheers to the man who had more great stories than Mother Goose. Edwin is survived by a large and loving family; including his devoted wife, Patricia Russell; his son Edwin G. Russell III; his granddaughter Carolina Leigh Russell; his mother Jessie Russell; his siblings John Russell, Robert Russell, Patricia Russell, Janet Russell, and William Russell; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and many friends, all who will forever cherish his memory. A funeral mass to honor Edwin will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 12:30 PM at Goldfinch Funeral Home of Carolina Forest (325 Hinson Drive, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579). Father David Nerbun of Frassati Catholic Church will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery (1000 Hwy 544, Conway, SC 29526). Military funeral honors will be presented by the United States Army at the cemetery. Edwin’s family will receive friends and visitors during two visitation periods, also held at Goldfinch Funeral Home of Carolina Forest. Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and also from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
