M. Elizabeth “Betty” Davis, age 83, of Pawleys Island, passed peacefully on September 21, 2021 at Grand Strand Hospital surrounded by her family. Born on March 27, 1938, Betty was the loving daughter of Grace M. and Daniel D. Bullick, and joyful sister of Daniel Bullick, Marcy Fraber, and Margaret Horn. Betty grew up in Ellsworth, PA. She attended California State Teachers College in PA, where she studied Biology and French. While in college she met her adoring and loving husband of 62 years, Thomas Davis, of Clarksville, PA. In 1958 they were married and left on their lifetime journey together starting in Fort Riley, Kansas where Tom was serving in the U.S. Army. Shortly thereafter they were stationed in Baumholder, Germany with the Army, where they had many adventures traveling and exploring Europe together. They returned to the U.S. in 1961 and began to build their cherished family of Lisa, Lauren and Scott. Betty and her family moved many times throughout Tom’s career with Allstate Insurance— living in Arlington, VA; Houston, TX; Roswell, GA; Libertyville, IL; finally retiring in Pawleys Island, SC, where they had spent many fun vacations with their family. She was a proud mother and homemaker by profession, but later in life worked at Hawthorn Elementary School Library in Vernon Hills, IL and at the Cook Memorial Library in Libertyville, IL. Betty loved life and was an active member of many clubs and organizations, and was a dedicated volunteer throughout her life. She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader, PTA member, room mother, Guild of the Blessed Virgin Mary member, CCD teacher, Libertyville Women’s Club, Friends of Cook Memorial Library, MainStreet Libertyville, Heritage Ladies Club, Heritage Garden Club, numerous book clubs, Heritage Bridge and Mahjong Clubs, Friends of the Waccamaw Library, Hobcaw Barony volunteer, Father Pat’s Lunch Kitchen volunteer, and Precious Blood Women’s Club just to name a few. She loved life, her family, and traveling. She had many hobbies, one of her favorites being reading, and remembered everything she read about, and could quote much of her extensive reading. Her friendly manner and espirit-de-corp personality made her a friend to everyone, and everywhere she went, she ran into someone she knew, giving her the nickname “Mayor of Libertyville and Pawleys Island.” Throughout her life she was known for her competitive spirit, strong convictions, quick wit, and most of all for her absolute devotion and unconditional love for her husband and family, whose lives she enriched immeasurably. Betty was a life-long devoted and practicing Catholic who shared her gift of faith with many, passing this great gift onto her family. She will be remembered as a friend to everyone, but being a Wife, Mother, and “Nana” was her #1 priority. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Daniel Bullick, and her sister Marcy Fraber. Leaving to cherish her memory is her loving husband Thomas S. Davis; her daughter Lisa Godfrey and her husband, Michael of Libertyville, IL, her daughter Lauren Davis of Pawleys Island, SC, her son Retired Colonel Scott Davis and his wife, Sydney of Fairfax Station, VA, her grandson Morgan and granddaughter Hannah Davis, her sister Margaret Horn and her husband, Keith Gwyn of Frederick, MD, as well as her sister-in-law Evelyn Bullick of Aurora, CO, and numerous dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.
