Loris…… Elsie "Pete" Cox Burroughs, age 94, wife of the late Elroy Dale Burroughs passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Mrs. Burroughs was born in Tabor City, NC, a daughter of the late John Grady and Dola Fowler Cox. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Schild's Department Store and Ruey's Department Store in Tabor City, NC. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Loris, SC. Mrs. Burroughs volunteered at the Loris Extended Care Center for 27 years, where she also taught Sunday School. In 2007, she received an award for her many years of Dedicated Christian Service to Loris First Baptist Church and the Residents of Loris Extended Care Center. In 2015, she received the Community Service Award from the City of Loris for her dedication and service to Loris and its residents. She was an avid gardener and loved working in her yard, especially cutting her grass. She was known for her strawberry fig jam and loved to share it with her many friends. In addition to her husband, Elroy Dale Burroughs, she was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Jones, and two sisters, Lena McCants and Anna Louise Long. Surviving are: one daughter, Carolyn Muller (Barry) of North Myrtle Beach; two grandchildren, Ashley Smith (Mike) of Rochester, NY and Clay Jones (Laura) of Johns Island, SC; two great grandchildren, Baylor Smith and Graham Jones; two step grandchildren, Matthew Muller (Jennifer) of Louisville, Ky and Andrew Muller (Leila) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; six step great grandchildren, Caroline Muller, Charlie Muller, Eliza Muller, Poppy Muller, Sydney Lima, and Jack Lima; one brother, Paul Cox (Choi) of Loris, SC; and one sister, Nina Collier of Whiteville, NC. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, March 15, 2026 from the Loris First Baptist Church with Rev. Shane Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Twin City Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary at the church from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM Sunday. The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the caregivers and staff of River Park Senior Living, Sunrise Hospice, Agape Hospice and those special caregivers who provided excellent care to her in the most recent days.
