Evelyn Longmoore Sheppard passed away on August 18, 2023 at the age of 91. She was born in Newbury, VT on May 10th, 1932, daughter to Ernest and Hazel (Webber) Longmoore. She grew up in Newbury and attended public schools, graduating from Newbury High School where she was very involved in the school playing basketball, and part of student council. After high school she attended hairdressing school in Manchester, NH where she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob)Sheppard who was on leave from the Air Force. They were married on August 8th, 1953 in Massachusetts and after an honorable discharge they settled in Melrose, MA for about 8 years. There they welcomed daughter Cynthia and 3 years later son David. After a job promotion they relocated to Orange, Connecticut and settled there for over 30 years where she was very involved with the community. Evelyn loved the sea and being near the salt water, many vacations were spent on their boat enjoying good times with family and friends. Evelyn and Bob retired to Myrtle Beach, where they made many great memories and good friends. After Bob passed in 2005 Evelyn stayed on and enjoyed over 30 years in Myrtle Beach. Evelyn had many talents, she loved to cook, she made many delicious meals over the years for her family and friends. Her favorite dish was the best potato salad! She enjoyed painting and had made some beautiful paintings on canvas, but was mostly known for her crocheting skills, making beautiful afghans for family and friends. Each grandchild and great grandchild have one of Grandma’s blankets. She was always very welcoming and a giving soul and will be so missed by all that were blessed to know her. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents Ernest and Hazel, her husband of 51 years Robert Sheppard, brothers Robert, Donald and David, sister Dorothy and sister-in-law Priscilla. She is survived by daughter Cynthia (Patrick) Enger, son David (Elizabeth) Sheppard. Grandchildren, Shaylene (Greg) Ahlquist, Shane (Emily) Enger, Skyler (Dani) Enger, Shelby (Spencer) O’Brien. David (Amanda) Sheppard and Megan Sheppard. Great grandchildren, Ayden Enger, Kaiden and Piper Enger, Kinsley, Boden and Benson O’Brien, Ethan, Evelyn and one more due in November. Liam, Kinley and Garrett Sheppard, step great granddaughter Keira. Evelyn’s sister Patty (Duane) Perry, brother and sister in law Herbert and Sue Sheppard and many nieces and nephews. Also leaving behind very dear friends, Dave and Sandy VanNostrand, Jeanne and Gerry Madeiras. There will be no public services, there will be a private celebration of life at the families convenience. In her memory if you so choose, please make a donation to a charity of your choice. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
