Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Clark Coleman, age 93, died peacefully on Monday, January 31, 2005 at her home. Her husband, Stanley David Coleman, preceded her in death. The couple was married for 64 years. The daughter of the late Essie Jones and David Crosby Clark, Mrs. Coleman spent her childhood in Union, SC. Following high school graduation, she enrolled at Winthrop College and received a BA in education in 1932. Her first teaching position was in Simpsonville, SC, for two years, followed by a move to Conway in 1935, where she met her husband-to-be working at Horry Drugstore. They wed on December 26, 1938, and Mrs. Coleman spent the next 32 years as a dedicated teacher at the elementary and secondary levels in Conway and Horry County Schools. Also, she often provided clothes for her students who were needy. She was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church in Conway, where she was active in teaching children and adults and playing the piano for Sunday School. In addition, she was a member of the Garden Club and played bridge every Wednesday afternoon with a group of friends for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her brothers: David C. Clark of Union; Lewis N. Clark of Myrtle Beach; William J. Clark of Orangeburg; Robert L. Clark of Conway; and a sister, Mrs. Amelia Clark Lawson of North Augusta. Survivors are a son, Stanley D. Coleman, Jr. and his wife Lucile Washington Coleman of Charlotte, NC ; and a daughter, Mrs. Nancy Coleman Yates and her husband, Robert V. Yates of LaGrange, GA. Grandchildren include Charlotte Coleman Crossland and her husband, Brian Michael Crossland of Cary, NC; Meredith Clark Coleman and Stanley David Coleman, III both of Charlotte; Carol Yates Murdock and her husband, Robert Owen Murdock of Portland, Ore. and Dr. Robert Rhett Coleman Yates of Jacksonville, FL. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 3 , 2005 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Conway with interment in Hillcrest Cemetery. The Rev. Andy Bass will officiate, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The family will receive friends on Wednesday night from 5-7 PM at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.
