Francis L. Egan, Jr., age 91, of Murrells Inlet, peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on December 31, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Frank was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Francis and Mary (Mullen) Egan. He worked for John Hancock Insurance Company for 40 years, retiring as the Director of Mail Services. It was during his early years there that he met the love of his life, his darling Dolores, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage before she passed away in 2015. Frank was an avid Boston sports fan, and he especially loved the Red Sox and Patriots. He enjoyed telling stories of his time spent selling scorecards at Fenway Park as a young boy. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army as Military Police. Later, he enjoyed summers with friends down the Cape, his bowling league and playing horseshoes. He and Dolores loved to travel and, after retirement, enjoyed spending winters in Naples, Florida. Frank was a great friend to many, had a quick wit and easy smile, and was very proud of his Irish heritage. Most of all, he was a devoted husband, dad and papa who found his greatest joy in spending time with his family. He was a man of great faith, and his quiet strength and perseverance were an inspiration to all who knew him. He was a long-time member of St. Mary’s of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Melrose, Massachusetts, before making his home in Murrells Inlet where he attended St. Michael’s. In addition to his parents and wife, Frank was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Eastlack. He was the loving father of Marybeth Johanson and her husband, Neil, of Murrells Inlet. Devoted grandfather of Neil Johanson and his wife, Dr. Dana Anholzer, of Raynham, Massachusetts, and Kelsey Huggins and her husband, Colby, of Tega Cay, South Carolina, who are expecting his first great grandchild in February. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at 10 am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Garden City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
