Tributes

Garden City Beach, SC Frank Richard Derry, devoted husband, loving father, and grandfather, of Blue Ridge Trail, died Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at his home. For some, he was known affectionately as "Sir Frank." He was born July 3, 1927 in Mt. Vernon, NY, a son of the late Charles and Hazel Goff Derry. He served in the U S Coast Guard in 1945 for several years. In 1951 he joined the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local 91 of White Plains, NY, as a Pipefitter/Mechanic. Frank also served as a volunteer fireman for Independent Hose Company #6 of Ossining, NY for 50 years. One of his greatest rewards was serving as Captain. Frank and his wife, Madlyn, married for 58 years, were wed on July 4, 1948. They retired and moved from Ossining, NY to Garden City, SC in 1987 where they made their home in the Jensen's Community. Frank made many friends there who could always count on him for his "fix-it" skills. He was a member of Belin Memorial United Methodist Church in Murrells Inlet where he served as Usher several times a year. "Sir Frank" enjoyed his daily walks at the Garden City Pier and Dick's Marina because of his love of boating, fishing, and the many people he met there. Frank was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. He cheerfully volunteered his services daily to The Helping Hand of the South Strand for over ten years. For those who had the privilege of knowing "Sir Frank", he will be deeply missed and never forgotten. He was preceded in death by brothers, Charles and Vernon and his grandson, Jason Ward. Survivors include; his wife, Madlyn Derry, sons Philip L. Derry of Sacramento, CA and James R. Derry and his wife, Doreen of Cold Spring, NY, daughters, Susan L. Brown and her husband, Dan of Myrtle Beach and Janet L. Eaton and her husband, Kent of Winston Salem, NC, five grandchildren, sister, Althea Palen of Terryville, CT, and several Nieces and Nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Helping Hand of the South Strand, P.O.
