Freeda Graham

Freeda Lawler Graham, of Galivants Ferry, passed away peacefully at her home on December 13, 2012. She was the daughter of John Wesley Lawler and Letha Hodges Lawler, and the last remaining of their eight children. She returned home to our Father in heaven to join her husband, Coy Mace Graham, also of Horry County, who passed away in 1985. Freeda was born August 13, 1924 in McAlester, OK, and grew up in Modesto, CA. After marrying Coy in 1942 on a 3 day pass in Reno, NV, they resided in Long Beach, CA for many years and retired to the Joyner Swamp section of Horry County. Freeda, a long time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon), is survived by her daughter Kathleen Hunt of Conway, SC, her children Christopher Johnson of Whittier CA, Emily Hunt of Mt. Pleasant SC and Thomas (Tad) Hunt of Conway SC, and was predeceased by her granddaughter Amy Hunt Thomas in 2010. She is also survived by her daughter, Cynthia Christ and her husband Jeffrey Christ of Nutrioso AZ, and their children; Stephanie Nelson of Mesa AZ, John Christ Springerville AZ, and Matthew Christ, who is currently serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the West Indies. She is also survived by six great grand children, Macy and Shane Nelson, Angela Hunt, Natalie Girba, Drew and Dex Thomas. She is also survived by two sisters in law Isla Graham Calhoun and Eula Mae Graham Durant both of Galivants Ferry, SC. and many nieces and nephews. Known by many titles, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother (G G) were her most cherished. She has been surrounded in life and during her passing by her loving, immediate and extended family, her friends and especially the tender care given by Christy and Keith Essick during her extended illness. Freeda was named by her mother for freedom; hence, the non-traditional spelling of her name. She lived up to her name throughout her life and never faltered in expressing her love for America and also for those who give military service to the United States. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the woundedwarriorproject.org or to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints "Elder Matthew Christ's Mission Fund". Service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at Hillcrest Mausoleum Chapel.
