The world became a dimmer place when Gerald Michal Vickowanich known to many as “Jerry” or “Vic” age 81, died in his home in Myrtle Beach, SC on August 2. Jerry left behind his loving wife Nancy Vickowanich, daughter Nicole Durham and son-in-law David, plus his faithful Jack Russell Terrier, Piper. He was affectionately known as the “treat man” to his grand dogs. Jerry was born March 13, 1941 in Livonia, Michigan to Nicholas and Stella (Depa) Vickowanich. He is also survived by his sister. Jerry was an avid golfer and a lover of Corvettes, owning several throughout his life. He had an infectious laugh and was always the life of the party. His love for University of Michigan Athletics was unmatched. From Saturdays in the fall through the depths of winter and into the budding spring, you’d always find him cheering for his beloved Wolverines no matter the sport. His career in aerospace engineering included working on the Minuteman Intercontinental Ballistic Missile system and the Saturn 5 rocket that helped take men to the moon. He also spent many years in electrical engineering and sales where he won Salesman of the Year honors multiple times with Dodson Pest Control. After retiring, he loved to go “picking” and maintained an antique booth at Peddlers Place in Myrtle Beach. Most importantly, Jerry was always quick with a joke, happy to lend a hand and always concerned about others’ well-being, unless you were an Ohio State fan, and even then he’d probably help you change a flat tire. Maybe... A truly good man was lost when he left this world. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Goldfinch Funeral Home in Murrells Inlet, the visitation and celebration of life will follow the memorial service.
