Goldy "Nana" Unger 90, died peacefully Monday, October 28, 2024, in her Myrtle Beach home surrounded by loved ones after a sudden and rapidly progressing battle with ovarian cancer. While we are grieving the loss of our beloved matriarch we are comforted in knowing that her final days were spent in her home as the sounds of her great-grandchildren playing and laughing echoed through her halls, exactly the way she liked it. Goldy was born in Brooklyn, New York to parents Leo and Rose Goodman. She later married the love of her life Jay and together they built a beautiful life and family that she cherished with her whole heart. While she answered to many names and titles, there were none that suited her better than Nana. After her first grandchild was born she no longer introduced herself as Goldy, she was Nana. It is the name that she chose for herself, and a title that she fully embodied. She was everyone's Nana. She will be missed by many, but in those grieving hearts the legacy of her love will be carried on and shared for generations to come. Goldy is preceded in death by her parents Leo and Rose Goodman, husband Jay Unger, daughter Robyn Caspento, son-in-law Richard Deutsch, granddaughter Caitlyn Deutsch, and her many siblings. She is survived by her son Jeffrey Unger and daughter Marcie Deutsch, her grandchildren: Lucas Unger, Judi Unger, Ashley (Nicholas) Payne, Craig Deutsch, and Alexandria (Bradley) Fregeolle, as well as her great-grandchildren: Carson and Blakely Deutsch, Colton and Olivia Payne, and Scarlett Fregeolle. Goldy also leaves behind many extended family members and friends that she loved dearly. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers and nurses who showed an abundance of kindness and compassion while maintaining her dignity and comfort in her final days. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, October 31, 2024 at Hillcrest Mausoleum, 1000 Hwy. 544 Conway, SC 29626. A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Unger will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday at Boardwalk Billy's 1407 14th Avenue North, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582.
