Hal LaVaughn Beverly, Jr., known since childhood to friends and family as Chip, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2015, surrounded by his dearest loved ones. Chip was born on July 4, 1974 in Athens, Georgia but soon returned with his parents to Conway, South Carolina where he grew up amongst family. After graduating from Conway High School in 1992, Chip attended Clemson University and graduated in 1997, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy. Chip went on to the University of South Carolina School of Law and was awarded his Juris Doctor in 2001. Chip moved to Surfside Beach in 2006 after practicing law in Charlotte, North Carolina for several years and joined the law firm McCutcheon, Mumford, Vaught, O'Dea & Geddie, P.A. in Myrtle Beach. In 2012, Chip became a founding partner of McCabe, Trotter, and Beverly, PC, a boutique law firm specializing in community association law. Resolute and philosophical, Chip's quick wit, humor, and charisma served him well in the practice of law and endeared him to his friends and family. Fiercely loyal and willing to speak up for what he felt was right and those he loved, Chip was, most especially, a giving and devoted husband and father. Chip was a member of the South Carolina Bar, and he served as Chairperson of the South Carolina Bar Association Community Law Committee. He was also a member of the North Carolina State Bar Association, the Community Association Institute where he served as a Committee Member of the South Carolina Legislative Action Committee, and the Palmetto Alliance for Better Communities. Chip is survived by his wife of fifteen years, Leigh Andrew, and his son, Hal Thomas Beverly, both of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, his mother, Candi Beverly, a sister, Annie Beverly, a brother, Chris Beverly, his nieces, Hayley Collins and Elisabeth Beverly, his nephew, Jacob Vollmer, and his grand-niece, Marley Sanders. Chip was predeceased by his father, Hal LaVaughn "Choc" Beverly, Sr., and his sister, Courtney Beverly, both of Conway, South Carolina. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, October 19, 2015 at Belin United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Aynor Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 PM Sunday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.
