Herb Fitzgerald, of Murrells Inlet, SC, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his devoted wife, family and friends on April 9 after bravely battling cancer. Herb was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Sylvia Fitzgerald and his children: Mark Dean Fitzgerald (and partner Debbie) of SC; Angela Jean Dent (Joseph) of AL; Lisa Duncan-Wellons of SC; Dawn Kreigh (Terry); and BH Fitzgerald III of SC. He is survived by his loving grandchildren; Hunter-Bailey Duncan, Holden Dent, Carter Dent, Jaxson Dent, Meagan Fitzgerald, Laurin Fitzgerald, Sydney Fitzgerald, Tiara Duncan, Erin Duncan, and Keith "Bodie" Duncan. He is also survived by his mother, Macy Fitzgerald-Fusaro of NC, his sister Kitty Kingma (Dirk) of CA. Visitation on Friday, April 12 from 6-8 pm at Goldfinch Funeral Home in Murrells Inlet. Funeral will be Saturday, April 13 at 2 pm at Low Country Community Church in Murrells Inlet followed by burial at Ocean Woods Cemetery in Myrtle Beach. Herb was born in Charlotte, NC March 18, 1939. He attended UNC where he received his first degree in Mechanical Engineering and a second degree in engineering from NCSU. Herb served in the US Army for a combined eight years in the Army National Guard and Army Reserve. He was with Corning Glass Works and AVX for many years but is most notably known for his service to the Real Estate community. Herb and Sylvia opened Fitzgerald Realty, Inc. in 1984 and began serving the community on many committees including the Realtor Assoc Nominating Committee, Chairman of the Membership and MLS committees and was recognized as Realtor of the Year in 1992. He served as President of the Board of Realtors in 1998. He supported charitable projects to include the Mark Sloan Memorial Golf Tournament, Beach Blast for Happy Days, Special Times, and the Junior World Golf League. His contributions to his community are praiseworthy. Herb loved traveling with his wife and friends, was an avid golfer, a licensed pilot, and loved boating and fishing. He loved his devoted wife Sylvia, family, friends and community. Herb loved and respected everyone he met and he touched many lives, everyone benefited from knowing him.
