Tributes

Jack Dickey, age 84, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on November 1, 2015 at his home. Born in Great Falls, SC he was the youngest son of the late W.J. and Ella Baker Dickey. He was a 1950 graduate of Great Falls High School. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was attached to a Marine unit where he served as a hospital corpsman during the Korean War. Mr. Dickey was active in the Baptist faith throughout his life, serving as a deacon, Men's Sunday School teacher, and Training Union Director. He was also active in the organization of Mitford Baptist Church in Great Falls, SC. Mr. Dickey spent 12 years in the building business followed by 25 years in the automobile business owning Jack Dickey Ford in Kershaw, SC, Dickey Chrysler Plymouth Dodge in Barnwell, SC and Mullins Motors Inc. (GM Franchise) in Mullins, SC. He was a past president of the South Carolina Ford Dealers Association. He was also a member of the Great Falls Masonic Lodge 277 for over 50 years. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Joyce Wernik Dickey of Pawleys Island, SC; a son Rev. Stephen E. Dickey, Sr. and his wife Phyllis of Anderson, SC; a daughter Judith Lynne Dickey of Greenville, SC; and a son Michael D. Dickey of Pawleys Island, SC. Mr. Dickey leaves behind four grandchildren, Ashley Dickey Wilson and her husband Dr. Andrew T. Wilson of Anderson, SC; the Rev. Stephen E. Dickey, Jr. and his wife Kirstie of Lexington, SC; Paul D. Kountz, III and his wife Jennifer of Atlanta, GA; Kristin Kountz Hill and her husband Ryan of Fredericksburg, VA. He also had 7 great grandchildren; Abigail Grace Wilson, Emma Margaret Wilson, Andrew Thomas Wilson, Jr., Elijah Stephen Dickey, Cameron Elisabeth Dickey, Jack MacArthur Kountz and Charles Francis Kountz. In addition to these there were numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Dickey was predeceased by brothers, Ernest Dickey, W.D. Dickey, Hazel Dickey, and Ray Dickey and sisters Lizzie Mae Dickey, Ethel Gabriel, and Olene Ridgeway. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the Goldfinch Funeral Home in Murrells Inlet, SC at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 5, 2015 with internment to follow at Hillcrest Mausoleum in Conway, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the memorial service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
