Longs.. Mr. James R. Butler, fondly known as "Uncle Jimmy", passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011 with his loving family by his side. Jimmy was born January 25, 1937 to Rufus and Laura Cox Butler of the Camp Swamp Community. He was a retired farmer who took great pride in his land, his love of working with his hands, but most of all his love of family. Those left behind with precious memories include his wife of two years, Hilda Butler, and her family who has been such a blessing to the entire family, his daughters who were the best part of him, Melissa B. Soles, her husband Charlie, and their daughter Jessica of Longs and Valarie Butler and Guilds Davis of Charleston, his sister, Ernestine Stevens and her husband Winston of Socastee, his brother, Junior Butler and his wife Dot of Leland, NC. Jimmy also leaves many nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends too numerous to mention by name but whom he dearly loved spending time with. Jimmy was predeceased by his first wife of 47 years, Linda Butler, who was a remarkable lady and a true farmer's wife, his parents, and his sisters, Judy Helsel and Irene Floyd. Jimmy was well known for his keen sense of humor and outgoing character. He was quick to tell a joke and well known for his creative concepts. He never met a stranger, was friendly to everyone, and made sure no one ever felt unwelcomed. He was a man of extraordinary vision and a great heart. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 6-8 pm at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Loris Chapel. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, May 26, 2011 from the Camp Swamp United Methodist Church with Rev. Carl Harris and Rev. Jo Anna Fallow officiating. Committal services will follow at the Butler Cemetery.
