Tributes

James Edward Harvill, age 90 died Thursday, March 24, 2005 at Myrtle Beach Manor. Born October 24, 1914 in Glen Wilton, VA, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Blanche L. Harvill. Mr. Harvill was a graduate of George Washington University in Washington, DC. He had retired in 1975 as an electrical engineer for the Missile Division of RCA in New York. Mr. Harvill was a major supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and had organized the Scout Jamboree for the New York State and was a recipient of the Eagle Scout Award. In 1984 he and his late wife, Mary Ensley Harvill moved to Murrells Inlet from Red hook, NY. He was a member of the Grand Strand Strutters Square Dance Club and the Surf Round Dance Club. Mr. Harvill was a Master Mason, Murrells Inlet Lodge #368AFM and had received lifetime member certificate, Omar Shrine Temple in Charleston and was a past member of the Myrtle Beach Shrine Club. He was a member of Belin Memorial United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Men?s Club. Mr. Harvill was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Louise Ensley Harvill and a daughter, Nancy Louise Sechrist. Surviving are his wife, Hazel Cannon Harvill; son, James William Harvill and his wife, Nancy of Towson, MD; daughter, Charlotte Harvill Burke and husband Paul of Framingham, MD; stepchildren, John W. Cannon and wife Joye of Dallas, NC and Linda Cannon Rowan and husband Terry of Murrells Inlet; grandchildren, Elaine Chaisson of Framingham, MA, William Pepe of Haverhill, MA, John Harvill of Marriottsville, MD and Jean Harvill Harpel of Oreland, PA; step grandchildren, Trent Cannon and Anne Cannon Whitner of Dallas, NC and Ralph Hendrix III of Connersville, IN; eight great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be later in Everett, PA. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00, Monday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.
