Tributes

James L. Cutler, 76 of North Litchfield, SC died Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Jim was born in Baltimore, MD a son of the late James B. Cutler and Helen Harmer Cutler. He was a graduate of Baltimore Friends School and a 1954 graduate of Lehigh University earning a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering. He also did graduate work at RPI He was a member of Chi Phi fraternity and the lacrosse team. Following graduation he served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army for two years. Jim was employed at Hamilton Standard United Technologies Corp. in Windsor Locks, CT for 37 years and retired in 1991 as Manager, Material Quality Control. He relocated to Pawleys Island, SC where he became a member of the Long Bay Power Squadron and the Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club. Jim had a wonderful Bass voice and he became very active in the Low Country Barbershop Chorus. He was also very active as a SCUTE a loggerhead sea turtle conservation project volunteer coordinator. While he resided in the Hartford, CT area he was a member of the Hartford Track Club and ran many races as a member of their masters relay team. He also enjoyed singing with the Insurance City Barbershop Chorus and the South Congregational Church choir in Granby, CT. Jim was a volunteer Boy Scout leader in Granby, CT.for many years while his sons were young. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Ann H. Cutler whom he married on September 11, 1954 and his three sons: James L. Cutler, Jr. and his wife Betty of Richmond, VA; Stephen F. Cutler and his wife Kathleen of Colorado Springs, CO and David A. Cutler and his wife Patricia of Granby, CT. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jason and Andrew Cutler of Richmond, VA; Jessica Cutler of Smyrna, GA ; Elizabeth and Rebecca Cutler of Colorado Springs and Stephanie and Christopher Cutler of Granby, CT. Surviving also are a brother: Richard R. Cutler of Reisterstown, MD and a sister: Margaret Johnson of Annapolis, MD. Memorials may be made to Harmony Foundation/Youth in Harmony 110 7th Avenue N.
