James Joseph Murray, age 84, died suddenly at his home on April 3, 2024. James was born January 17, 1940, in The Bronx, NY to the late James and Mary Murray. James was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. James loved children. He and his wife had two biological children and adopted eight others, some with special needs. He was the nicest guy you would ever meet. He had a great sense of humor, never met a stranger he didn’t welcome, and would give you the shirt off his back. He loved watching sports. One sporting highlight of his youth was when his baseball team, Journal American League, won the city league. Their reward was to play in Yankee Stadium before a Yankees game. Jimmy sat next to Phil Rizzuto & wore his glove in the dugout while his dad watched from the grandstand. He was a huge Yankees fan but would also root for the Mets and Giants. Serving with pride in the US Army as an M.P., Jim was stationed in Korea for a 13-month tour of duty. He had countless stories he loved to share with family and friends about his old army days. James enjoyed going to the ocean and spending time on the beach. His favorite beach restaurant was Damon’s on the ocean in Myrtle Beach, where he enjoyed their ribs. Preceded in death by the love of his life and best friend was his wife of almost 50 years Harriet and his beautiful daughter Erika. He is survived by his children, James, Doreen, Keith, Crystal, Donny, Timmy, Marissa, Scott, and Tara; grandchildren, Courtney, Shawna, Austin, Jada, Wyatt, McKayla, Michael, Vivian, Mathew, Andrew, Bashar, Yazan, Salma, and Rania; great grandson, Elliot; brother, Thomas; sister Mary; daughter-in-law, Daniela; son-in-law, Eddie and many nieces and nephews. His memory will linger warmly in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him and being touched by his kindness and generosity. Capturing the essence of a life that left an indelible mark on the world is a challenge in just a few words. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel at 11528 Frontage Rd, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576 on Saturday April 13, 2024. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in James’s name, may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel is assisting the family.
