James Regis White Junior, 93, a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Garden City, SC and former member of St. Bernards’ in Pittsburgh, died peacefully on May 12th, 2024, James known to many as Jim and Jimmy, was born June 17th, 1930, in Pittsburgh, PA, the oldest son of James and Helen Karl White. He was preceded in death by his first wife Margaret McConville White and his siblings, Donald White (Dolores alive and well), Mary Alice Pillion (Thomas), Helene Senda (Jack), John White, and Patrick White. Also preceded in death by sisters-in-law Mary Ulam (Thomas), Eleanor Sieger (Edward) and brother-in-law, James McConville (Gerrie). He is survived by his wife Kathleen Luke White, and children Deborah Aloe (Daniel), James White III (Chip and Dayna), Catherine Dundas, Joseph White, Frank Luke (Cindy), Kathleen Kniphfer (Wayne), and John Zimmerman (Nancy deceased). He is survived by 13 loving grandchildren, Lisa, Andrew, and Benjamin Dundas, Gregg (Alex) and Merissa Cohen (Adrian Oldham), Brian and Danny White, Jessica and Eric Luke, Andrew (Anna) and Matthew Kniphfer as well as seven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Madelyn, MaKenna, Frances, Isabella, Cameron, Isla, Vance, Emma, Luke and many nieces and nephews. Jim’s ties to St. Michael’s Parish and the Knights of Columbus were deeply rooted. Pittsburgh was his hometown where he was raised. He served in the Army as a translator working with Army signalmen in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s. He was an expert at quick translation before computers existed. He returned to Pittsburgh, married Margaret, and raised his family. He had a long-standing career with Bell Telephone, then AT&T. He and Margaret were married 41 years. He retired in Pittsburgh and moved to Murrells Inlet in 1993. He married his wife Kathleen in 1996. They had almost 29 years of marriage together. He had a loving family and many friends in Pittsburgh and in Murrells Inlet with a lifetime of happy memories with all who loved him. Jim will be greatly missed. He was a cherished part of many lives and a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His funeral is being held Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 2:00 PM at St. Michael’s Parish. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Parish Building Fund at St. Michael’s that will support an activity building and serve families in the community. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel is handling arrangements for the family.
