Jo Ruth Focht (Sprang) Oppenheim, age 93 and the wife of the late Joseph McCoy Oppenheim died on Friday, December 22, 2023 at her home at Lakes at Litchfield. Jo Ruth was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on February 14, 1930, a daughter of the late Rev. Lyman F. and Myrtle Green Focht. She graduated from Kenton high School, Kenton Ohio and from northwestern School of Commerce, Lima, Ohio. She was married to the late Neal E. Sprang of Kenton and they had 3 children. In 1975 she married the late Joseph (Mack)Oppenheim, M.D., the father of 2 children. She is survived by a daughter, Lynette Ruth Fleming of Decatur, IL; a daughter, Cynthia Kay and her husband Mark Tieken of Brownsburg, IN.; a son, Paul Nelson and his wife, Lynn Sprang; Mack's son, Joseph C. and his wife, Diane (Gott) Oppenheim of Buffalo Grove, IL and Mack’s daughter, Pamela Diane Oppenheim of Western Springs, IL. This beloved family now is extended with 13 Grand/Step Grandchildren and 11 Great/Step Grandchildren. In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was predeceased by her sister Mary Elizabeth Winters of Lima, Ohio, and her brother, Morris G. Focht. Jo Ruth held a challenging position for 16 years at St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima, Ohio. Upon her husband’s retirement in 1986, they moved near Conway, SC for golf and the temperate climate. They relocated in 1991 to the Lakes at Litchfield in Pawleys Island, SC where they enjoyed having their own home in a retirement center which provided friends from many states and helpful benefits from a cheerful and capable staff. Over 33 years ago she became fascinated with home computers and continually was upgrading, helping friends with computer problems, learning new programs and electronic gadgets. She used her knowledge for many projects from creating slide shows to phone texting. Her life’s theme was “Heaven in One Big Hug that Last Forever”. Memorial Services for Jo will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 4, 2024 at St. Paul Waccamaw United Methodist Church with the Rev. John R. Virgin officiating. Jo will the privately be inurned with her husband, Joseph McCoy Oppenheim in the Columbarium at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church. Memorial gifts may be given to the charity of your choice. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Litchfield Pawleys Chapel is assisting her family.
