Joan Auvil Turner Joan Auvil Turner, 92, of Myrtle Beach, SC, formerly of laeger and Welch, West Virginia, died Thursday, July 5, 2012. She was born on September 26, 1919, in laeger, WV, the daughter of Daniel Lawrence and Mollie Cyphers Auvil. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband, Frank William "Bill" Turner; a daughter, Linda Lee Grogan; an infant son, Frank W. Turner, Jr.; 3 sisters: Gladys A. Bingham, Audrey A. Auvil, and Kathleen A. Lester, and her only brother, Daniel L. Auvil, Jr. Survivors include a son, Richard William (Nancy) Turner of Tallahassee, FL; 3 daughters: Elinor T. ("Sandy") Bright, with whom she made her home; Claire T. (Terry) Lampert of Bluefield, WV; and Diane T. (Orving) Clemins of Charlotte Court House, VA; grandchildren: Natalie Bright (Scott) Ayscue of Raleigh, NC; Tiffany Quesenberry (Douglas) Jones of Bluefield, WV; Tonya Quesenberry-Belt of Bluefield, WV; Dr. Raegan Quesenberry (Jude) Kotsko of Virginia Beach, VA; Whitney Clemins (Eric) Napier of Keysville, VA; Brian William (Nicole) Turner of Ocala, FL., Scott Kyle (Jennifer) Turner of Tallahassee, FL; and Eric Lloyd (Sunday Lee) Bright of Pounding Mill, VA; great-grandchildren: Jordan & Logan Ayscue, Turner & Maggie Jones, Zoe & Dominic Kotsko, Ansley Napier, Lillie Lee, Taylor & Jackson Turner, and Tristan & Colson Turner. Mrs. Turner was a lifelong member of the laeger United Methodist Church, laeger, WV, and a member of the Lotus Chapter of the Eastern Star in laeger. She was a 1937 graduate of laeger High School where she was captain of the girl's basketball team. A Concord College (Athens, WV) graduate, she taught 31 years in the McDowell County School system. She was Librarian at her alma mater, laeger HS, from which she retired in 1985. She was a loving, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was also revered by her sons-in-law and her daughter-in-law, as well as all those who had the privilege of knowing her. She instilled in her children the importance of close family. She was a lady until the end, a Marine's wife, and she will be loved and missed forever. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the White Family Cemetery in Charlotte Court House, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mercy Care Hospice, 8216 Devon Court, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572 or to one's favorite charity.
