Dateline: Myrtle Beach John A. Fiengo John A. Fiengo of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at home with his loving wife Doreen. Born February 20, 1932, in East Haven, CT, he was the son of John Baptiste and Mary Fiengo. John attended East Haven High School, CT. He lived in CT most of his life until he and his wife retired to Myrtle Beach, SC in 1996. John was proud to serve his country as was his father who served in World War I, and his brother who served in World War 2. John is a US Navy and US Air Force Veteran. He received three bronze stars and a Presidential Unit Citation for his service in the Korean War on the USS Missouri while in the US Navy. He was also a helmsman at battle stations and liberty boat coxswain as well as one of three ship lifeguards. He also served in the U.S. Air Force 104th Fighter Squadron and the National Guard. John was a life member of the VFW Post 10420 and DAV Post 6, and a past member of the Moose Club and the Elks Club. John always lived life fully and loved and treasured his family and friends. Throughout his life he traveled to 15 countries. He was also involved with many civil service organizations and family businesses as well as the official organizer of family events. John managed a Little League Baseball Team in East Haven, CT, and won the Central Division in 1965. He helped organize a Boy Scout Troup and served as Boy Scout Master in Prospect, CT. John graduated from Barber School and Stone Business College and used his training in various endeavors. John owned three restaurants, two nightclubs, pizza parlor and YMCA Coffee Shop in CT. He had a distributorship with Good Humor, Pepperidge Farm, and Charles Chips. John was one of the first bakers for Lender's Bagels in their back garage. John also managed a Hotel in Puerto Rico in 1971. Surviving John are his beautiful and loving wife, Doreen (Douglas) Fiengo, son John Fiengo and wife Cindy of CT; daughter, Deborah Brown and husband, James of CT; especially loved grandchildren, Kyle and Amanda Fiengo of CT; brother-in-laws, Robert and Linda Douglas; Frank and Diane Douglas; and several special nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his brother, Henry Fiengo; and his sister, Genevieve Fiengo Johnson. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Monday, October 19, 2009 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, October 19, 2009 at the funeral home with Father Ray Carlo officiating.
