John P Schock (“Pops” as he was affectionately known) passed from this world on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at the age of 89. John was born in Wildwood, New Jersey and graduated from Paulsboro High School where he met and married the love of his life, Catherine Jean Stevenson. They had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on August 2, 2022. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. John served in the Air Force during the Korean War as an Airman Basic from September 1951 until September 1955. He flew as a tail gunner and received the National Defense Service Medal, United Nation Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal. After leaving the Air Force, John was employed by DuPont (Repauno Plant located in Gibbstown, New Jersey) as an electrical apprentice. He became the Electrical and Instrumentation Supervisor for the plant site. He retired in 1991 after 35 years of service with the company. Catherine J. Schock followed John from this world on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at the age of 89. Catherine was born in Repaupo, New Jersey and graduated from Paulsboro High School. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Everyone knew her as Jean. She was a dedicated housewife and caregiver to her grandchildren. In 1996, John and Catherine moved from their home in Paulsboro, New Jersey to their favorite vacation spot, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where they lived out their days. They loved their dog “Rusty”, enjoyed riding their motorcycle, taking cruises and other types of travel, exercising together, and following their favorite duo “Latitude” all across Myrtle Beach and beyond. They are both survived by their daughter Nancy Rabutino & Anthony of Myrtle Beach, SC, their son John Schock, Jr. & Terri of West Deptford, NJ; 5 grandchildren: Natalie, Crystal, Phillip, Michael, and Toniann; 7 great grandchildren: Hunter, Isabella, Evan, Logan, Naomi, Caleb, and Miah; John’s 3 brothers: Robert Schoch of Florida, William Schoch of Virginia, and Stewart Schoch of Utah. John was predeceased by his sisters Janet, Mildred, and Margaret, and his brother Howard. Catherine was predeceased by her sister Ruth, and her three brothers Ivan, James, and Henry. Services will be held in the spring of 2023 in New Jersey.
