Mr. John Terry Hucks, age 70, devoted husband of Wanda H. Hucks, passed away very suddenly on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at MUSC in Charleston, following a brief illness. Born on February 10, 1953, in Conway, Terry was the son of the late James E. Hucks and the late Eloise Smith Hucks. He was an entrepreneur and businessman, but words cannot adequately describe the man he was and what he meant to everyone who knew and loved him. Terry was a cherished friend, a source of comfort and guidance for countless individuals. His calm demeanor and wisdom made him a beacon of serenity in the lives of those around him, a steady hand in turbulent times. He was a graduate of Conway High School and was a well-known figure in Conway and Myrtle Beach, being a member of one of the earliest families in Horry County. Terry was a selfless and generous soul and was a friend to everyone who knew him, never meeting a stranger. Family meant everything to Terry. He was fiercely devoted and loyal to his loving wife of 47 years and to his children and grandchildren. Terry was predeceased by his parents, James and Eloise Hucks; his sister, Millie Holt; and his sister-in-law, Linda Jo Hucks. Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Wanda Hinson Hucks; his children, James Jaret Hucks and Rebecca Leigh Hucks; his grandchildren, Delaney Parrott, Lucas Terry Hucks, and Jacob Hucks; his siblings, Wayne Hucks (Deanie), Irene Patrick, and Daryl Hucks; and a great host of nieces, nephews, other extended family, and friends who will miss him immensely. Terry was not only a businessman but also had a passion for music. He was a member of an a cappella singing group called "The Four Deuces" and was a founding member of the Horry County Citadel Club. Additionally, Terry's love for music extended to his time at The Citadel, where he was also a member of the band. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at the home of Wayne Hucks, 4852 Highway 501 West, Conway, SC 29526, officiated by Rev. Rocky Taylor and Rev. Larry Allen. (Look for the seasonally decorated rolls of hay and wagon at the driveway entrance.) The family will receive friends and have fellowship following the service.
