Oetzel John J. John J. Oetzel age 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2013 in Pawleys Island. John was born on April 4, 1921 in Philadelphia, PA to Leonard and Helen Oetzel. He served as a flying officer in the Army Air Corps in WWII. He attended the Philadelphia College of Textile and Science and the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. John was employed by J. Schoeneman as vice president and general manager of the company's textile plants in Wilmington, DE and Baltimore, MD. He retired in 1988 with 45 years of service. He also had his own textile consulting firm from 1989 to 1997. John lived in the Philadelphia area until 1988, when he moved to Georgetown, SC (DeBordieu) with his wife after his retirement. He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Pawleys Island where he was a lay leader and worked on various projects. John is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Rosalie (Faber), brother, Leonard Oetzel; sons, John T. Oetzel (Patricia) and Terence Oetzel (Susan); grandchildren, John (Keri), Matthew (Irene), Katie Gallegos, Amy Ryan (Michael), Beth Oetzel (Craig Burner); great grandchildren, Jamie Oetzel, (Arielle), Nicole Gallegos, William Gallegos, Payton Burner, Ethan Oetzel and Spencer Oetzel and great great grandson, Elijah Oetzel. The family wishes to thank the staffs at Heartland Hospice and The Lakes at Litchfield for the dedicated care and compassion they provided to John during his last days. The family is planning a funeral mass at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church, 1633 County Road S-2-46, Pawleys Island, SC followed by interment in the Columbarium at Precious Blood. The services will be immediately followed by a memorial gathering in the Church Hall. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday June 12th with a prayer vigil at 7:00 PM at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Litchfield/Pawleys Chapel.
