Jon Maynard Buntenbah, 80, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side on Monday, May 6, 2024. Jon was born November 26, 1943, in Irvington, New Jersey, a son of the late Clarence Herman Buntenbah and Miriam Caroline Buck Buntenbah. In addition to his parents, Jon was preceded in death by his brother, Barry Buntenbah. As a young man, Jon joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was stationed at RTAFB Ubon, Thailand, from 1969 – 1970. During his service, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, the Air Medal with 2 Silver Oak Leaf Clusters, and the USAF Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster. Jon retired from the USAF on March 31, 1986, at The Pentagon in Washington, DC, as a Lieutenant Colonel. On April 4, 1998, he married his beloved wife Gina Barro Baui Buntenbah in Honolulu, Hawaii. In his leisure time, Jon loved watching TV and movies at home. He was a great fan of movies, and The Godfather was one of his favorite films of all time. Jon also loved recommending movies to his family and friends. He also enjoyed nice cars, travelling, and going on cruises and had the opportunity to visit Egypt, Rome, Sicily, as well as many other places during his travels. Above all else, Jon enjoyed spending time with his family and relaxing at home. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Jon leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory. Survivors include his devoted wife of 26 years, Gina Buntenbah; his son Jon Christopher Buntenbah and his wife Monica; his daughter Claire Ann Elizabeth Scaramella and her husband Adam; his four grandchildren, Liam, Lauren, Donovan, and Lucas; as well as many other extended family members and friends. Per his wishes, Jon will be cremated, and his urn will be entombed at the Florence National Cemetery columbarium in Florence, South Carolina. Entombment will be held privately for the family at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations in Jon’s honor be made to Homes for Our Troops (https://www.hfotusa.org/).
