Joseph "Joe" P. Los passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at Embrace Hospice House in Myrtle Beach, SC. Joe was born March 22, 1935 on a farm near Scenery Hill, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Louis J. Los and Mary Buday Los. In addition to his parents, Joe is also preceded in death by a sister, Marcella Trout of Fredericktown, PA. He was educated at Somerset Township Elementary School and then graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1952. Joe enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh, on an athletic football scholarship, where he played varsity football for several years. Upon his decision to leave the Pittsburgh program, Joe enlisted in the US Naval Air Reserve. He was assigned to the Navy's hurricane hunter, squadron VW4, trained as a radioman and was assigned to a flight crew where he had the exciting experience of flying missions into six named tropical storms throughout the Caribbean. Upon separation from service in 1958, Joe enrolled at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, OH, to complete his education while also playing football. While attending BW, he married his lovely wife of 59 years, Doris M. Sanders on August 16, 1958. Following graduation from BW in 1960; with a BS Degree, he began a career in casualty insurance working for several insurance companies and then JC Penney Casualty CO in Pittsburgh while living in Charleroi, PA. In 1979, Joe was promoted, transferred to the home office of JC Penney Casualty in Westerville, OH and he, Doris and their son Chris moved to Worthington, OH. Upon the sale of JC Penny Insurance, Joe joined the Ohio Department of Insurance in Columbus, OH as the Market Conduct Division Chief Following retirement from the Ohio Department of Insurance in 1997, he and Doris moved to Myrtle Trace in Conway, SC from Worthington, OH and he enjoyed playing golf as well as serving as a volunteer with various organizations in the Myrtle Beach area. Joe was also a member of the Catholic Church of St. James in Conway, SC. Joe is survived by his wonderful wife, Doris, a son Christopher (Shelly) and two grandsons, Josef and Stefan of Littleton, CO. He is also survived by his sister, Louise Mosier of Washington, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the Catholic Church of St. James with Father Timothy Akanson officiating.
