Joyce Hardee Airington, age 85, passed away Friday, September 13, 2024. Joyce was born at home in Loris, South Carolina on March 25, 1939. In her early years, she worked in tobacco fields with her parents on "the farm". She graduated from Loris High School in 1957. Later in life, she worked at the Cotton Mill, the Spinning Department in Conway, before spending many years as a substitute teacher at Conway Middle School. She also planted and harvested a large variety of vegetables on her homestead in Conway alongside her first husband, Leamon and their daughter, Teresa. Of utmost importance, Joyce was a devout Christian, attending several churches over the years, with the last of these being White Savannah Free Will Baptist Church. Over her lifelong years she enjoyed a variety of activities and hobbies. She excelled in playing the piano at church and home. She cherished being part of her church's gospel group and traveled to sing at revivals with Leamon who played the guitar. She was also a great cook with meals spread for all to enjoy. She loved to bake and make delicious desserts. Not only was she a great singer and cook, but a talented seamstress as well. She enjoyed making a variety of clothing and other items for her family. She enjoyed traveling with family to various destinations, including a memorable trip to Hawaii with her mother, Dela and sister, Estell. Many more vacations were spent enjoying cruises and mountain trips with her family. Most of all, Joyce loved the Lord. She loved her devoted daughter, Teresa, with Jerry at her side, ready to help with any needs and chores around the estate. Joyce dearly cherished her parents, her two husbands, sisters, brother, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many, many other family and extended family members and friends who made her life complete. Joyce was predeceased by her first loving husband, Leamon Hardee, her second beloved husband, Charlie Airington ; her kind and precious parents, Wilber Woodrow Carter and Dela Caines Carter; a very dear sister, Lisa Doretta Carter, her nephew, Glen Ottaway, great nephew, Garrett Glen Dale Ottaway and other cherished relatives. Joyce leaves behind her loving daughter, Teresa Hardee Airington and wonderful son-in-law, Jerry of Conway, sister Estell Lee Harrelson (Bobby) of Wilmington, NC, brother, Paul Carter (Debbie) of Georgetown, SC, sister, Ann Carter Alford of Loris; three cherished grandchildren, Michelle Fullwood, Preston Queen, and Jordan Airington; two beautiful great granddaughters Meadow and Sydney Fullwood; nieces, Rhonda Lee Ottaway, Jennifer Berzinskas (Bill); nephews, Dale Watts, Carter Watts (Bridgett) and Glenn Lee, great grand-nieces and nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters in-laws and their spouses and children as well as four step-children, Ellen Sullivan, Ernie Airington, Charles Airington and Joyce Williams and other dear family members and friends. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at White Savannah Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Buddy Seay and Rev. Stephen Hyman officiating. Burial will follow in Carter Cemetery directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Tuesday at the church.
