Joyce E. Holt, 97, the last surviving member of her generation, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 7, 2025. Joyce was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She attended Lutheran Elementary school where her journey of faith in God began. After graduating high school, she worked in accounting at Blatz Brewery. She married her husband on December 31, 1950 and spent the next three months through some of the coldest recorded days in St. Paul, Minnesota. Afterwards, they moved to Falls Church, Virginia, which they called home for the next 40years. Joyce worked in Washington for both a Congressman and a Senator until Tyler began his own small business.There, Holt Window and Doors, she supported him with her bookkeeping skills. They also attended Our Savior Lutheran Church in Arlington, Virginia. Together, Joyce and Tyler retired to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 1991. Joyce is preceded in death by her Husband of 45 years, Tyler (who passed away on 1995); sister Caroline; and brother, Jerry. Although Joyce and Tyler never had children, they were loved by many nieces, nephews, greats, and even great-greats. In their retirement, Joyce found great joy in volunteering at Risen Christ Lutheran Church which became her extended family. She chaired the Social Ministry Committee for more than a decade. She was also an avid knitter, where throughout her years, made over 200 lap blankets for hospice patients. One particular blessing was her work in the Re-Sell-It Shop. She shared with her pastor that living out her faith through the practical help to others gave her great joy. She gained more from giving something away than from gaining it herself. She would quickly tell you that her greatest gain was Christ himself. The gift of faith in Him was her greatest blessing. She wanted to share Christ with anyone in any way she could. Always bittersweet, the comings and the goings, but you will be loved and remembered Auntie Joyce - Always. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Risen Christ Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Risen Christ lutheran Church.
