On Thursday, May 2, 2024, Julia Johnson Martin Land, 93, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her family. A longtime resident of Conway, Julia was born December 21, 1930 in Horry County. She was the daughter of the late Norton Boyd Johnson and Ida Hardwick Johnson. Her life's career was bookkeeping. She worked at Conway Medical Center, City of Conway, People's Federal Savings & Loan, Platt's Pharmacy and with her sons, George H. Martin, Jr. and Gregory K. Martin. As a member of First United Methodist Church, she served on various committees and was a member of the John McCutcheon Sunday School class. Julia was predeceased by both of her husbands, George Henry Martin, Sr. and Benjamin Smith Land, Jr.; her son, Gregory Keith Martin; her parents; her siblings, Margaret Reese, Boyd Johnson, Grier Johnson, Edgar Johnson, Jack Johnson, Rebecca Howell, Bessie Hucks; and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by: her children, George Henry Martin, Jr. (Maryanne) and Tamra Martin Hendrick (Keith); her grandchildren, Scott James Steiner, Jr. (Jessica), George Henry Martin, III (Elizabeth), Anne Marie Martin Fess (Hall), and Emily Ann Steiner; her great-grandchildren, Scott James "Tripp" Steiner, III, Reese Hawley Steiner, Smith Thomas Steiner, and Kate Anne Martin; her sister, Betty James; step-children, Ken Land (Nancy), Mark Land, and Laurie Johnson; step-grandchildren, Brad Land, Brett Land, Matthew Land, Zelle Land, Wilson Land, Carlis Johnson and Clint Johnson; and a special friend, Genevieve Alford. Julia enjoyed traveling, flowers, shopping, the beach, the mountains, and entertaining family and friends. She was affectionately known to her grandchildren and many friends as "Juju". Julia's greatest legacy will be her love for Jesus Christ and the love she had for both of her husbands, her children, grandchildren, and many friends. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, May 5, 2024 at First United Methodist Church. The visitation will be held at 2:00 in the Commons Area at the church. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund or First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir, 1001 Fifth Avenue, Conway, SC 29526. The family offers a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Patriot Hospice Health Care for their loving care of Mrs. Julia. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
