Julie Anne Chase-Ferrara, 83, of Pawleys Island passed away peacefully after a short illness on Sunday, August 13, 2023. Julie was born in 1940 in Secaucus, NJ. She was the fourth of 5 children to Hortense (Rohner) and Cornelius Kasten and was their only daughter. She is survived by her two brothers, Walter and Richard Kasten and their wives Ellie and Barbara respectively. Julie spent her childhood in Secaucus before meeting and marrying Raymond Lasson Chase. Together she and Ray had 4 children – Bethann (Steve Smith), Raymond Lasson (Sue Chase), Laura Marie (John Cappetta), and Debra Lynn. Sadly, Ray passed away in 1979. Julie rekindled a childhood relationship with Ralph Ferrara also from Secaucus, NJ and after a long courtship, they tied the knot in 1985. She had three step-children - Michele, Ralph, and ToniAnn (Michael Congedo). Julie and Ralph have enjoyed 38 years of marriage together splitting their time between Mt. Arlington, NJ and Pawleys Island, SC and blending their families. Julie and Ralph welcomed twelve grandchildren over the last 32 years: Zachary Dreiss, Ray Chase, Taylor Dreiss, Tyler Chase, Lindsey Cappetta, Austin Chase, Garrett Cappetta, Julia Chase, Matthew Congedo, Cole Ferrara, John Marciano, and Chase Marciano. Julie also had two step-grandaughters, Marjorie (Nate Phillips) and Caitlin. Her grandkids are the light of her life, and she spent as much time with them as possible teaching them how to play games, doing crafts and giving lots of hugs and affection. “Grams” was greatly loved by all her grandkids! Julie spent 20+ years at Prudential Insurance Company in Roseland, NJ. She retired from working in 1996, which is when she and Ralph decided to purchase their first home in Surfside Beach and ultimately moved to Pawleys Island in South Carolina for the past 21 years. Julie enjoyed shopping and took an immense amount of pride in her fashion. She had always been a great source of inspiration for her kids and grandkids. She also enjoyed playing Mah-jongg and Hand, Foot & Elbow card game weekly with her friends in Pawleys Island. Julie enjoyed doing Crossword puzzles, reading and baking. Julie is immensely loved and will be missed by all. A funeral visitation will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Litchfield/Pawleys Chapel with a funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM.
