Kenneth Samuel Holt, age 84, passed away at Anderson Oaks in Conway, SC after suffering with Alzheimer's for many years. He was born in Conway, the son of William Fred Holt and Sallie King Holt. He was a graduate of Conway High School, Spartanburg Methodist College and the University of South Carolina. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He served as Mayor of Conway from 1979 - 1982. He also served as Horry County Auditor from February 1989 - June 1993. He owned several businesses in the Conway area: G-H Finance Insurance Company, Conway Cleaners, Holt Realty, Holt Ford, H and R Builders and Sea Mark Gifts in Garden City, S.C. Mr. Holt was a member of First United Methodist Church of Conway for 62 years and a member of the Hut Bible Class. He is currently a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Conway. His deep dedication to God led him to serve the church in many leadership roles, but the one he loved the best was being Head Usher. He loved to greet people and welcome them to God's house. Mr. Holt was an active member of many civic organizations including: Conway Kiwanis Club for 60 years, a Mason and a Shriner. He also served on the Advisory Board of Santee Cooper for 20 years. He was a member and past president of the Conway Board of Realtors. Kenneth enjoyed fishing in the Georgetown rice fields and cooking his catch for his friends and family. He was most noted for his "river rice." He loved to barbeque and hosted yearly Christmas parties for his closest friends and family. A special thank you goes to Dr. Charles Sasser and his staff for their exceptional dedication and care. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Morrison Holt of 57 years. He is also survived by his three children: Kimberly Susan Holt, Kenneth Samuel Holt, II, and Karey Stephen Holt. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with the Rev. Randy Riddle officiating. A private burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
