Conway-..Mae Revels Allen, age 98, wife of the late James B. Allen, Sr., died Thursday, August 5, 2010 at the Bethea Baptist Health Care in Darlington. Mrs. Allen was born in Fitzgerald, GA, a daughter of the late Georgia Ella and Revels Edwards. She graduated from the Dothan Alabama High School and married her husband, the late J. B. Allen. From that time, Conway became her home. She was employed by Jerry Cox Company for over 20 years before she retired. Mrs. Allen was a lifelong member of The First Baptist Church, where she taught nine year old junior girls for over 20 years, and then joined the Dorcus Sunday School Class. She loved her church and was a very active member. Mrs. Allen was a member of the Senior Singers Choir and attended circle meetings. She was a member of the Gardenia Garden Club and served as Treasurer, Secretary and President during this time. Mrs. Allen was a member of the Ball Club and was Royal Matron of the Amarath for several years.. She loved to play Shanghi Cards with her special friends weekly and loved working in her yard, caring for her plants. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Revels, a brother, Harold Edwards; two sisters, Myrl Clarke and Geraldine Chestnut; and a special daughter-in-law, Pam Allen. Surviving are three sons, James B. Allen, Jr. and wife Jo Lynn of Columbia, Floyd Edward Allen of Conway; Jon Julian Allen, Sr.; Jon Julian Allen and wife Shirlee of Galivants Ferry; a daughter, Jo Ann Hall and husband Frank of Florence; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank all of the staff, nurses, and CNA's at the Presbyterian Home in Florence for the excellent care and tremendous love shown to "Granny", who they referred to as their "Barbie Doll". Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, in the First Baptist Church of Conway, officiated by Rev. Rocky Taylor. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 in the First Baptist Church Parlor. Memorials contributions may be made to the McLeod Hospice, POB 100551, Florence, SC 29502.
