Tributes

Gracious wife, mother of two boys, and grandmother of four boys and a compassionate friend. Gail died at 12:30 am on June 24, 2023 at 73 years of life. She was born May 20, 1950 in Loris, South Carolina to Junior and Eloise Grimsley. She graduated from Tabor City High School in 1970 and Piedmont Community College with a degree in Electronics. As a result she worked in accounting and taxes the majority of her life. She fell in love with Danny Phipps and married him on December 19, 1970. This resulted in the birth of two sons, Jeremy and Jason who probably consider their home in Kannapolis, NC. Her hobbies were stitching, traveling the world especially Greece, dancing and she was history buff plus . being devoted to her two sons while putting up with her husband, Dan. Being a May baby, the Holy Spirit drew her to God and she surrender her heart and life to Jesus on May 30,1970. She spent her life seeking to honor God and seeking to please Jesus by witnessing to others in her own way. She built a Day Care Ministry and became its director. She enjoyed teaching the Bible growing the biggest Young Adult Bible Class in the church, and started the Kids Lamplighter Club influencing the lives of children. Her special gift from God was her beautiful singing voice and she loved music singing in all kinds of choirs. Most importantly she was a social Butterfly and could charm anyone. At the Counseling Center her compassion shown through, and people would come in early just to talk to her. She was regarded as being a good-looking woman with a charming smile. When dressed in pink she was literally gorgeous. Gail is survived by: husband Dan C. Phipps of Surfside, SC, son Jeremy (Amanda) Phipps; Jason Daniel Phipps of Concord, N.C; Grandchildren: David Yanez Phipps, Mathew Daniel Phipps of Concord, NC; Raylon C. Phipps and Lennox Boyd Phipps of Tega Cay, SC; her brother, Dale(Hellene) of Myrtle Beach, SC and her sister, sister Joyce Welch of Thomasville, NC. Other brothers and sisters are Faye, Billy, Bobby, Rickey. Our family would like to express deep appreciation for the kind-heartedness of those who went far beyond the call of duty: namely Grand Strand Second Floor Nursing Staff. We were extremely impressed by the loving display of true felt compassion for a dying woman and her family by the Embrace Hospice House dedicated staff. Memorial donations may be sent to the Sewing Seeds of Hope a legitimate ministry of getting mistreated women off the streets of India by teaching them a sewing trade.
